EU chemical output stagnant in 2014

  The output of chemicals in the European Union rose by a paltry 0.2% in 2014, while sales fell 1.1% compared with the previous year because of lower prices, according to the latest Cefic Chemicals Trends Report. Sales during 2014 were close to the precrisis full-year peak reached in 2008, according to Cefic. Prices in full-year 2014 fell by 1.8% compared with those in 2013.

  The European Union’s net trade surplus in chemicals fell to €44.1 billion ($46.7 billion) in 2014 compared with a record €48.2 billion in 2013, down 8.5%.
